Who Is The Great Mormon Prophet – Gorden Hinckley?

It would have to be said that with most religions when a new leader takes over that there are some changes always made. When it comes to the Mormon prophet Gordon Hinckley this is more than true.

It will only be in the coming years whether one will be able to decide whether or not what Hinckley did for his religious followers is good or bad. One of the key characteristics that Hinckley seemed to have was to able to use the general media for the agenda that he had for his church. Many believe that he was a master at deception it would seem that Hinckley out right lied to Time magazine about the doctrine of the Mormons and this was very confusing for the church of Latter day saints itself. It also added fuel to the fire for those that were against the Mormons and their beliefs and those Mormons that had left the church as well.

The specific doctrine that was being referred to was specifically whether or not Mormons that were true to their religion could actually become gods. This is a doctrine that goes all the way back to Joseph Smith who was the actual founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There has always been a play on words that when it comes to this particular piece of doctrine as Joseph Smiths take on it was that as a man is now God once was therefore as God is now man may become. Hinckleys report on this particular piece of doctrine was that basically they really didn’t know a lot about it and whether it was even really being taught or not. This was quite astounding, from a leader in the Mormon church

Now it must be remembered that according to the Mormons belief that Hinckley was a prophet as such because he was in the leadership. This meant that he was Gods top representative here according to their beliefs and yet he was making this stand against something that had been taught since the time of Joseph Smith. One would think that being in his position and leadership that he would be well-versed in the totality of the doctrine of the Mormons. The only retort that the Mormons could come back with to respond to what Hinckley had said was that it had been taken out of context and that really people didn’t understand what their leader was saying or meant. They will go on to tell you that this particular piece of doctrine has been canonized and have actually become part of the covenants of their religion.

This sort of thing is most distressing for the Mormons who are trying desperately to reach out to new converts in making a stand as being the true Christians such as those that were in the New Testament. It must be remembered that Mormons do not consider the Christians of today as the true followers of Christ. They believe that the Bible has been corrupted and much has been lost and that the apostasy of the Christians still exist.

ACE the CSET: Independent And Dependent Clauses

For the CSET test, you need to learn what dependent and independent clauses are.

Another term for dependent clause is subordinate clause: which means the clause is subordinate to another factor (the independent clause) and depends on that other factor for its meaning.

A dependent clause is a clause which cannot exist alone; it wants a primary (or independent) clause to go together with it. For example:

Because it was raining, I took my umbrella.

This sentence incorporates two clauses, “Because it was raining” and “I took my umbrella”. The first clause does not mean something on its own. In case you say “Because it was raining”, and nothing else, folks won’t be able to know what you mean. Nonetheless, “I took my umbrella” is an independent clause – we can perceive what it means even if it is by itself.

The distinction between an independent and dependent clause rests on the appearance of 1 word.

Dependent markers include words like: as, after, before, until, once, since, while, when, whenever (relating to time), where, wherever (relating to place), although, though, despite,if, even if, even though, how, unless, whether, because, in order to, why, who, which, that (relative pronouns).

Take into account how the addition of one phrase changes the character of the clause:

The inspector uses a dye to reveal imperfections in the metal. (independent clause)

After the inspector uses a dye to disclose imperfections within the metal… (dependent clause)

Until the inspector uses a dye to reveal imperfections within the metal… (dependent clause)

Only the first example is an independent clause and an entire sentence. By including a dependent marker equivalent to “after” or “unless,” we turn the final two examples into dependent clauses. And because those examples are dependent, they cannot be complete sentences.

Once more, a dependent clause can not constitute an entire sentence by itself. Because a dependent clause by itself is a sentence fragment, the last two examples above need an independent clause to be able to make a whole sentence.
